Fifth generation Bahá'í Parvin Esfahani with husband Woody Stanwood, left, and daughter Aneesa Machin, right, reflect on how members of her family have risked persecution, jail and death in Iran for over thirty years. While the rest of her family have fled the country, her sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews are currently facing prosecution but refuse to leave their home. "I'll tell my sister this," she says, "This will bring them so much joy....they will tell the whole community and tell each other 'people are still thinking about us...they care'". Local and visiting members of the Bahá'í faith commemorate the anniversary of the Mártyrdom of the Báb, during which the prophet was executed by a firing squad in Iran for delivering his teachings. The faith, which emphasizes the oneness of God, religion, and humanity celebrates diversity and boasts members of all races, religious backgrounds, and cultural heritages.
